When it comes to my personal brand of patriotism, I started out low and have been on a downward spiral of disillusionment ever since. The past week hasn't helped.

This song will never end up in the same category as any of the epic protest/political songs like "Ohio", "Killing In The Name", "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall", or "Sunday Bloody Sunday", but getting these thoughts out of my head and into the world for the three people (that aren't my Mom or Liz or Scott) that might listen is better than nothing.

Here's to the 1st Amendment I guess.

A tiny slice of normal last two years were just a drill

The biggest “fuckshow” rests within the Supreme Court
Lifetime appointment? It’s them we should abort
Ditch the clowns on Independence Day
Burn it down on Independence Day

I try not to be bummed but it’s a real tough pill to swallow
When I think about my friends’ kids and the earth and tomorrow
Let’s use it all up now until there’s nothing left to borrow
All that patriotic bullshit just continues to ring hollow

And now we’ve got ourselves a great catastrophe
We’ve turned the clock right back to 1933
And suddenly we are not feeling very free
But for now it’s Independence Day
